Hey everyone! I hope you’re all ready for this week’s look (HINT: it’s magazine cover worthy!) Recently, I received a batch of stunning photos from a past shoot where the team and I went full editorial! Absolutely everything—from the bold hairstyle to the all-black styling—was on another level. Here’s all you need to know about this look:

Every great editorial shoot needs a strong concept. For that reason, I gravitated towards the amazing @dasnobb for her expertise in creative direction. I’ve worked with Snobb in the past and I’ve always been in awe of her clear vision and creativity. She was clearly the perfect person to organise and direct this shoot.

Her concept revolved around a modern reinterpretation of the 1870s nursery rhyme: “what little girls are made of”. Instead of sticking to the original message, she wanted to imagine “what a grown, sexy woman is made of” instead! She also wanted to celebrate the ideal black woman and all her beautiful attributes: from her curves to her playful, flirtatious personality.

Snobb even brought everyone together for the shoot. One of the people she recruited was Rene Connage-Durant (A.K.A. @wowthatskool). He’s a talented photographer who came along to @blankboxstudios to take my photos. His artistic style is visually striking, and he knows how to make great use of dramatic lighting in his work. So, he was the perfect fit for this project! He really captured the allure of a bold and empowered woman.

While posing alongside a decadent table of sweet treats, I wore a glamorous outfit Snobb had styled (with some assistance from Jada at @classcorneruk). Her mood board featured photos of women decked out in sensual, all-black ensembles, so she pulled out all the stops to achieve a similar look for the shoot.

On the day, I wore a black corset with lace and ruffle detail, sleek black tights, and black heels. The main statement piece was some dramatic feather arm warmers. In fact, Jada had made them herself to help bring Snobb’s concept to life.

Being the multi-talented queen that she is, Snobb also worked on my statement hairstyle. Since she’s someone who likes to push me out of my comfort zone, I ended up rocking a bright, candy blue wig — and, you know what, I think I pulled it off!

Of course, we can’t round-up this post without talking about the immaculate makeup. This time, @beautybybemi_makeup made my skin glow! She even brought attention to my eyes with fluttery lashes (top & bottom) and dreamy eye-shadow in varying shades of brown. Much like my skin, my lips also glowed since she added some shiny gloss. Perfection!

And that’s everything from this memorable editorial shoot! What do you think of the finished result? Personally, I loved experimenting with a new style and I felt empowered by Snobb’s amazing concept. Also, the photos came out amazingly. All the elements of this shoot were so cohesive, leading to incredible results. A big round of applause to everyone who worked on this editorial-style project.

Until Next Time,

Lots of Love, Kika.
